Why I am Against GenAI and Everything it Stands For

GenAI promises unprecedented innovations, but at what cost? Between ethics and capitalism, let's explore the real implications of this technology.

Introduction

Generative Artificial Intelligence, or GenAI, is the buzzword of the moment in the tech world. Although this technology promises incredible innovations, it also raises numerous ethical and practical questions. Why am I against GenAI and everything it stands for? Let's delve deeper.

GenAI: Promise or Illusion?

GenAI is the idea that algorithms can autonomously create content: texts, images, videos. In theory, this sounds fascinating. But in practice, the technology is far from as beneficial as it claims. For instance, according to a McKinsey study, only 20% of companies have truly integrated AI beneficially into their operations.

Perfect Capitalism

GenAI is fueled by massive human data, often without the original creators' consent. Big tech companies exploit this data to train their models and then sell access to these models as subscriptions. It's capitalism pushed to the extreme: take for free and sell at a high price.

Ethical Questions

Beyond the commercial aspect, there are significant ethical issues. AI-generated content can be biased, reproducing and amplifying prejudices present in the training data. Furthermore, the question of intellectual property remains. Who holds the rights to a text or image generated by AI?

The Dangers of Automation

With GenAI, we are witnessing large-scale automation of creative tasks. This could lead to a homogenization of cultural content, where originality and authenticity are sacrificed on the altar of productivity. A PwC report estimates that automation could threaten up to 30% of jobs in some sectors by 2030.

Use Cases and Limitations

In Marketing

Companies use GenAI to create personalized marketing content. However, these contents often lack depth and authenticity, two key elements to truly engage consumers.

In Education

Education could benefit from GenAI to create adaptive learning programs. Yet, the lack of human interaction risks reducing the effectiveness of learning.

Conclusion

GenAI presents incredible promises, but at what cost? The ethical, economic, and cultural issues are too significant to be ignored. Before diving headlong into this automated world, it is crucial to weigh the pros and cons.
